Block-diagonal matrices can be extracted or removed using two small functions implemented here. In addition, non-square matrices are supported. Block diagonal matrices occur when two dimensions of a data set are combined along one edge of a matrix. For example, trade-flow data in the 'decompr' and 'gvc' packages have each country-industry combination occur along both edges of the matrix. authors: - family-names: Quast given-names: Bastiaan email: bquast@gmail.com orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2951-3577 preferred-citation: type: manual title: 'diagonals: block matrix and other fat diagonals' authors: - family-names: Quast given-names: Bastiaan email: bquast@gmail.com orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2951-3577 institution: name: The Graduate Institute address: Maison de la Paix, Geneva, Switzerland year: '2015' url: https://qua.st/diagonals repository: https://bquast.r-universe.dev repository-code: https://github.com/bquast/diagonals commit: ec7f3cd35b53123443fe3235592b2f7d511648a5 url: https://qua.st/diagonals contact: - family-names: Quast given-names: Bastiaan email: bquast@gmail.com orcid: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2951-3577
